Secondly, there is a significant difference in special representation. With this I don’t mean the absolute depth of the image, which even appears a little larger over the Sony notebook. But here as well, this strikes me as unnatural – not to say, almost hollow - in direct comparison to the HD-Player 2. This effect is obviously closely connected to the precision in the representation of individual instruments. Through the HD-Player 2 the sound stage moves slightly forwards and appears a lot more focussed. At the same time for me the spatial impression improves. A contradiction? Not necessarily, because the individual instruments appear much more precisely ordered in space. For instance, in the pianissimo beginning of the ouverture to “L'Italiana in Algeri” by G. Rossini (Solti & Orchestra Of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden: VENICE - CAPC 23130 SA) the flute remains really a flute and does not suddenly morph, in terms of its dimensions, into a tuba. Equally, in „Intermezzo from Goyescas“ by Enrique Granados with the New Philharmonia Orchestra under Rafael Frübeck de Burgos (Decca Legacy Volume One - FIM UHD), the wind instruments do not vaguely come from the background, but are clearly delineated as regards their size and their position in space, which lends clarity and precision to the spatial representation.
