But I should like to emphasize the possibility to display not just front but also back cover art as well as the partic-ularly nice display of liner notes. These are the small booklets, which normally accompany CDs and nowadays also album downloads, which are however normally so small as to be hard to read. Now on a large tablet, you can beautifully view and read this additional material while listing to your music, just as you would the cover art of an LP. And there it is again: the context of the analogue era, but in a modern digital form. The user interface is a browser app which runs platform independently in full screen mode in Safari or Chrome. I very much liked the app in day-to-day use. Coming back to the sound quality of the Model 2: how do I find out what drives it? Is it the server or the DAC or both and wherein exactly lies the difference to most other digital playback devices out there? Questions over questions?
Since the internal DAC is not accessible for external sources, I choose the opposite way and connect the server with my PS Audio DSD DAC via the AES/EBU digital output. For comparision I set up my Sony notebook con-nected to the PS Audio DAC via my two cascaded Mutecs and switch between the Model 2 server and the Sony notebook setup. The Sony is configured with Windows10 Pro optimized with AudiophileOptimizer, MinimServer in connection with JPLAY and ROON.
