In this configuration, I tried out the provided Ansuz Acoustics Mainz Power Cable A2, costing a substantial 2,700 euros at two meters length, and compared it to the Audioquest Hurricane Source at the same length. This though retails for 900 euros less. In principle, at Ansuz Acoustics they follow the theory of a holistic concept. This means that every single Ansuz product, be it the Ethernet cables, the C2T feet or the power cables, enhances the musical result steb by step. I can clearly spot the sonic differences induced by the Mainz right away. However, to create fair conditions I would like to allow the brand-new Ansuz power cable a few days of burn-in time: Similar to my then new Audioquest Hurricane, the lows of the Mainz seemed to sound somehow rumbling and somewhat disharmonic. Also with the Mainz, this effect got minimized considerably after a few hours. I listened to it for quite a long time and enjoyed the clearly structured performance. Accuracy and accented mids are a positive feature of the Ansuz Mainz A2. The longer the power cable was in use, the more I liked the homogeneity and the clear order in the music, which the Mainz was even able to intensify. If I now exchange the Mainz A2 for the Hurricane, I will risk a dilemma of the holistic kind: On the one hand, there is the harmonious interaction of the Ansuz components, while on the other hand, entirely antagonistic to it, there is Audioquest’s holistic power concept. Audioquest, however, does not advocate this theory in a pro-active way. After all, in this test set-up a total of seven units run cabeled by Hurricane - three power amplifiers, one pre-amp, an equalizer for the lows against the room modes, the D/A converter and the Niagara mains filter plus the Ansuz A2. My experience tells me that a coherent power supply, no matter of which provenience and price level, substantiates the consistency of an audio system. The balanced and beautifully structured sound of the Ansuz Mainz was counterbalanced by the Audioquest with its more lavish low bass, not only sounding fuller-bodied, but also very transparent, bestowing the music a more pronounced spatial grading in the lower registers. This could be heard on the album Of Moons and Dreams by the Cécile Verny Quartet and also on the "Furioso Galopp" by Johann Strauss in the interpretation of Lisa Batiashvili and Nikoloz Rachvili. Both power cables follow distinct characteristical traits. In my system, however, the Audioquest took the lead. That probably would be significantly different if my system was completely equipped with power cables from Ansuz instead of Audioquest - at least according to my theory and conviction. Ansuz as well has complete power concepts on offer, including line filters and the Sparkz noise suppressors as well as a grounding concept.
